Therapeutic work with Children & young People

My approach is child/young person led.  How I facilitate my sessions is adaptable, to meet the age, ability and particular needs of the child or young person.

For younger children I offer a creative and playful approach I specialise in movement, and body based approaches, that incorporates creativity and play. The children can choose to access a variety of media such as; puppets, art materials, nurturing toys, and sandplay, as well as other therapeutic resources.

For older children and young people, I also work creatively through movement and incorporating verbal and non-verbal therapeutic interventions. Methods used may be through movement, art, games, sandplay or more structured creative exercises or tools for them to take outside of the therapy space.

Children and young people can find find it extremely difficult to talk about what is going on for them. Non-verbal creative therapeutic approaches can be a more natural, and accessible means for children, or feel like a safer and less threatening way to work through, or manage their difficulties.

Areas that can be explored through therapy are; emotional or behavioural difficulties, life/family changes, bereavement, past trauma, health issues, body image, exam stress
